Population

The population of the region stands at 27,4 thousand including 9,1 thousand – town dwellers and 18,3 thousand – villagers.

Belarusians account for more than 80% of the population; Russians – 10%. Ukrainians, Poles, Jews, Letts, Lithuanians and representatives of other nationalities live in the region. The population density is 13 people per one square kilometre.

There is the town of Verkhnedvinsk (7,7 thousand people), the settlement of Osveya (1,4 thousand) and 265 villages in the region.
