| Belarusian regulations governing the construction industry will be brought in line with the European documents, Minister of Construction and Architecture Alexander Seleznev said at a session focusing on the performance of design organisations and on construction industry regulatory framework.
According to the minister, this move is needed to enhance the quality of construction works and attract foreign investors. |

| Belarusian athletes are going to take part in the 8th International Issyk-Kul Sports Games of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). The event will take place in Chopon-Ata (Kyrgyzstan) on September 5-12, BelTA learnt from press secretary of the CIS Intergovernmental Humanitarian Cooperation Fund Alexander Kalugin.
This year partaking in the Games will be SCO participating states – Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, as well as non-members of the organization – Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus and Ukraine. |

| Belneftekhim concern is considering the possibility to organize the alternative oil supplies to Belarus through Lithuania's Butinge port, Belneftekhim Deputy Chairman Vladimir Volkov told a press conference in Minsk on September 3.
With a view to diversifying energy supplies to the country, the Belarusian side is studying the possibility to organize alternative oil supplies to Belarus provided it is economically reasonable. |

| A session of the committee of the chiefs of the security councils of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO) member states opened in Yerevan on September 3. The session is attended by State Secretary of the Security Council of the Republic of Belarus Yury Zhadobin, BelTA learnt from the Embassy of Belarus to Armenia.

| Candidates for deputies of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus will start their TV and radio appearances on September 3, Secretary of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Nikolai Lozovik told BelTA.
In most constituencies air time will be available between 18:00 and 18:30 for TV appearances and between 18:30 and 19:00 for radio appearances. In constituencies with many candidates (mainly Minsk and oblast centres) air time will be available between 17:30 and 18:30 for TV appearances and between 18:00 and 19:00 for radio appearances. |

| Belarusian tennis-player Viktoria Azarenko successfully started the 2008 US Women’s Open in New York.
In the first round Viktoria defeated Klara Zakopalova of the Czech Republic. The next opponent of the Belarusian tennis-player is Iveta Benesova from the Czech Republic, too.
Another representative of Belarus, Olga Govortsova, is to play her first match against the Czech Sandra Zahlavova on August 26. |

| In January-June 2008, the trade between Belarus and Ukraine exceeded $2.5 billion which is almost 2 times up from the same period of 2007, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Belarusian Economy Ministry.
In H1 2008, the export of Belarusian goods to Ukraine increased 2.6 times to reach $1.5 billion, the import picked up 48.1% and exceeded $1 billion. Belarus posted a surplus in trade with Ukraine at the amount of $467. |

| Head of the OSCE/ODIHR Election Observation Mission Gert Arens and Head of the CIS Observation Mission Sergei Lebedev are to meet on the election day, September 28, BelTA learnt from the CIS Executive Committee.
The relevant agreement was reached during the meeting between Chief of the staff of the CIS Observation Mission Nauryz Aidarov and Gert Arens. The sides discussed the organization of the work of the missions during the Belarusian parliamentary elections and agreed to cooperate on the level of the heads of the missions and on the level of experts. |
